5 Survival Foods You Can Find in the Forest

Wild blackberries are completely edible. Aside from that, they are easy to find. Their branches are red and have thorns. Their flowers are also white and have only five petals. So, if you see blackberries in the wild, then you’re in for a treat.
Clovers are signs of luck, and they literally are! These plants are safe to eat and can be easily spotted in grassy areas. While some eat these plants raw, others suggest consuming them sautéed or boiled. However, if you’re out in the wild with no access to decent oil, better just boil it when you can or eat it raw.
There are more than a hundred species of pine all over the world. And fortunately, some of them come with large seeds that are edible and sumptuous. However, do note that some pine species are poisonous. Thus, take caution.
4. Wild Onions
Wild onions are widespread in forests. Some species have flowers, and others don’t. But like pine, you must be careful with eating wild onions. If the plant smells like onion, then it is edible. But if it smells otherwise, it can be toxic.
5. Prickly Pear Cactus
Aside from being a staple in Central American and Mexican diets, the prickly pear cactus is a nutritious plant that’ll help you survive if you are alone in the forest. Just get rid of the spines found on the outer skin, and you now have a delicious treat.
